First Friday Factoids

September 7, 2007 · 1 Comment

The Art District on Santa Fe has launched a blog, a companion to the district’s web site; the blog will feature reviews of current shows, gallery updates, and other news. There’s a lot happening on the Avenue this weekend — First Friday tonight, and a slew of openings and events this weekend. Viz.:

  • At Sandy Carson Gallery: The Quality Of Light, a pair of one-person exhibitions. Jeff Hersch’s photographs highlight the shadows made by the light as it covers people, stairs and buildings. Painter Jennifer Omaitz captures light that has been photographed as if seen from a speeding vehicle, the traces and speed of light as it travels across the world.
  • At Spark Gallery: new work from Lisa Michot (”Eek! A Mouse!”) and Keith Howard.
  • At Limited Addiction: Sanctuary, an exhibit of new works by Lola, Kevin Peterson, Nathan Spoor and Chet Zar. These four renowned artists possess a range of distinctive styles that provide a glimpse into a reality like none other.
  • At Sliding Door Gallery: new work from Bill McDonald and Ruth Kneass. McDonald reclaims wood slabs and pieces and reconstructs them into 3 dimensional wall pieces. Kneass takes found and crafted pieces such as wood and stone and transforms them into floating compositions and sculptural offerings.
  • At Habitat Gallery and Studio: a Friday-night reception for Plates of Change, a newly released book by the Volunteers of Children’s Hospital with a unique recipe for better living for youth.
  • At The Gallery at 910: the final Youth in the City International Film Festival screening, Saturday night at 6 p.m. The featured work is the award-winning documentary Sita, a Girl from Jambu, which details a work of street theatre performed by young Nepalese women to educate their peers about the issue of sex slavery. Filmmaker Kathleen Man will be on hand.

Finally, in case you missed it, the Rocky Mountain News wrote up Kashi Kari Gallery in Saturday’s paper. It’s the last First Friday of summer — hope you can make it.
